Matt Drudge of Drudge Report fame tweeted on Thursday that he was having lunch with Rand Paul and also had some high praise for the senator.
“Intriguing lunch in hill office of America’s best senator, Rand Paul,” Drudge tweeted, adding, “He’s bold, brave and has somehow kept his heart in such a corrupt city.”
Drudge usually deletes his tweets minutes or hours after posting.
Matt Drudge was a supporter of Donald Trump during the election, but last week expressed his dissatisfaction with the president in the midst of the Obamacare repeal and replace debate, writing “The swamp drains you.”
Sen. Paul played a leadership role with the House Freedom Caucus in being a driving force behind Speaker Paul Ryan’s pulling the American Health Care Act from a vote on Friday, legislation many conservative and particularly libertarian Republicans blasted as “Obamacare-lite.”
“I would say that the Republican establishment position is, is that they’re going to keep parts of Obamacare. I don’t think ‘Obamacare-lite’ is what we should do,” Paul said as far back as February. In a Rare op-ed in early January, Paul called for a full repeal and outlined some of the major components of what should replace Obamacare based on free market alternatives. full story
